PRESIDENT

Deborah Olsen

Deborah Olsen earned a degree in journalism from the University of New Mexico and, as we like to say, "knows the business." She has spent time as a reporter, photo editor, professor and publisher. Her work has been awarded by the Associated Press and the Colorado Press Association. The latter gave her a “Best News Photo in Colorado” award during her coverage of the 1994 Good News Building explosion. But Deb says she is most proud of winning the Ski Association’s “White Stag Award” for ski journalism.

Deb has been with Steamboat Magazine since 1993, and the owner of Ski Town Publications Inc. since 2004. She has also authored Steamboat Springs Legends: A Centennial Collection. Deb has skied an estimated 1,000 days on Mount Werner and has still managed to visit 50 countries. Throughout her travels, she has found no better place to come home to than Steamboat Springs.

PUBLISHER

Travis Gainsley

After spending 12 years traveling the Caribbean and Central and South America in the Scuba Diving Industry, Travis finally wised up and moved to Steamboat. When not putting his eight years of publishing experience to use at Steamboat Magazine, Travis can be found snowboarding, mountain biking, hitting the core-trail on his cruiser or looking for a good happy hour with friends around town. If you ask the staff what is the best thing about having Travis onboard...they will most likely reply, his two labs Trinidad & Tobago....

EDITORS

Joe Carberry

Joe Carberry came to Steamboat Magazine from the paddlesports industry and Paddler magazine, where he served as the publication's associate editor. His work has appeared in Outside, Canoe and Kayak, Powder and Sports Illustrated. He grew up in Idaho, playing on the state's wild waterways. He values three things in life above all else: his family (now including one-year-old Sam), remote rivers and fresh Steamboat powder.

Jennie Lay

Jennie Lay is a freelance journalist who travels frequently to cover stories throughout the western United States and beyond. Living and writing from her off-the-grid log cabin south of Steamboat Springs, she specializes in energy, the environment and adventure travel. Jennie keeps it local as a contributor to Steamboat Magazine and editor of the Steamboat Springs Visitors’ Guide. She has also written for High Country News, Yoga Journal, Scuba Diving Magazine, Ski Magazine and 5280.

ADVERTISING ACCOUNT EXECUTIVES

Travis Gainsley

Shelly Bisbee

Shelly Bisbee was born and raised in northern California and moved to Steamboat to raise a family. She worked for five years in sales and print production with an agency outside of San Francisco, and for one with the Steamboat Pilot and Today. Shelly has been with Steamboat Magazine for a year, and says the best part of her job is the people she works with and the new people she meets in the community every day. She shares Steamboat with her husband Andrew, her daughters Molly and Hannah, and golden retriever Calvin.

Dave Lawler

Dave brings 21 years of customer service and sales experience to the Steamboat Magazine team, as well as a proven track record through his work as a real estate broker in North Carolina. Before breaking into real estate, Dave was the director of marketing for Divers Alert Network (DAN). As a key member of the world's largest association of recreational scuba divers, he created instrumental programs that remain a vital part of the international dive community today.

When he’s not helping his customers with their advertising and business needs, you’ll find this avid outdoor enthusiast enjoying the fantastic activities and places Colorado has to offer. Dave has an innate ability to assess and fulfill a customer’s needs. His enthusiasm and people skills will enrich your Steamboat Magazine advertising experience!

PRODUCTION MANAGER/IN-HOUSE GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Julie Hebard

Julie Hebard is a Steamboat Springs native. She graduated in 2005 from Colorado State University with a double major in graphic design and marketing. She moved home to snowboard and now runs the Steamboat Magazine office, and serves as the in-house designer.

BOOKKEEPER

Sandy Jacobs
Originally a California girl, Sandy has been with Steamboat Magazine the longest of any us. She came on-board in 1993, as part of the Mac Media team that used to produce the magazine. Sandy specializes in detail: both in words and numbers, in her dual role as proofreader/bookkeeper. When she's not in the office, she's spending her time with her husband, native Steamboater Judd Jacobs, and their four-year-old daughter, Riley.

ART DIRECTION/GRAPHIC DESIGN

Steamboat Design Associates

When several design and marketing experts from large city agencies decided to move to Steamboat and start a creative marketing firm, Steamboat Design Associates was born. Creative Director Lisa Fleming, designers Traci Lanham, David Taylor and Todd Bishoff, and CFO Kay Wipper form the SDA team. They design for all of Ski Town Publications Inc.’s works, as well as more than a dozen other major companies.
